Hello, there! My name is Fiona. I am a mom of four kids, a wife to my best friend and a child of God. I started this blog mainly because I wanted a place to record the things I make.

I started sewing after my youngest child was born. Somehow I had gotten it into my head that I wanted to make my children some outfits. So I started with sewing for my girls, mainly from sewing kits that I bought off Etsy. These were mostly simple outfits, but it made me happy to see my girls wearing them.

Then I progressed to sewing from sewing patterns, and I learned a lot this way, especially when I used Oliver and S patterns! Being able to take some fabric and turn it into a dress, or some shorts, or a blouse for my kids just felt, well, good. It was something to lift me out of the tedium of being a stay-at-home mom, even though that’s something I love to do and wouldn’t change at all.

Eventually, I took a pattern drafting and sewing course and started sewing for myself too. I’ve made a good chunk of my wardrobe by now. Again, that’s been very satisfying. Along the way, I dabbled in sewing backpacks, bags and various home decor items. I still love garment sewing most though.

I just wanted to let you know I received my package from you today! What wonderful treats you sent me. They suit me just perfectly. Thank you so much! I am already using my little pouch for sewing scissors and planning outfits to wear my new necklace and scarf with. I have a wonderful turquoise cardigan that they will go with! I was checking out your blog and it’s wonderful. We have celebrated Chinese New Year here a little bit too. One of my sons is adopted from China. We were there two years ago adopting him.

Hi Fiona, hello, my name is Suan Chiang, and I write for the lifestyle section of The Business Times. I came across your Bess Top sewing class workshop on The Workroom’s FB page. I’m working on a story on classes that people can attend, and I’m wondering if I could feature you. In this day, when it is so easy to just buy clothes off the rack, what inspired you to make your own clothes, and even to teach them. Let me know if you would be open to an interview? My email address is

Hope to hear from you soon.
